CURATORIAL STATEMENT
The goal of my exhibition to produce a series of artworks that raise questions surrounding the nature of perception and bias. I have always held a strong interest in the concept of human opinion. For such a straightforward idea – that everyone views the world differently – the myriad of ways it is expressed within both the artificial, and the natural world is intriguing. Although I originally chose the theme of Diversity for my exhibition, I found myself drawn more to diversity in perception. The exhibition centers around contemporary issues or ideas that remain prevalent within the modern world: human rights abuses, environmental exploitation and cultural relativism. I wanted to challenge people’s preconceived notions by forcing them to view common subjects in a different light. Placed together, these works illustrate the versatility of perception, and the danger of forming an opinion without first, seeking to understand.
